    Materials:

    5 balloons -- helium-quality
Funnel -- from 1-liter water bottle
    1/2 cup dried black beans
    Scissors

    1. Make a funnel by cutting the top off a one-liter plastic water bottle.

    2. Place the balloon over the mouth of the bottle (figure A). Note: Please don't ever put a balloon in your mouth -- you could choke!

    3. Put a small amount of beans in the funnel and carefully fill the balloon with beans (figure B). Continue until the balloon is snuggly filled but not bulging.

    4. Tie the end of the balloon as close to the beans as you can get it. Tie a total of three knots. Cut off the extra end of the balloon neck.

    5. Then, with the other four balloons, cut the "necks" off all of them (figure C). Then cut two or three holes in each. Stretch the balloons over the bean balloon, making sure to cover the original knot (figure D). Continue to layer so that the first balloon is completely covered.

    Tips:

    • Never put a balloon over your mouth.

    • You may need an adult to help you stuff the balloon.
