The soft colors and textures of this centerpiece make it ideal for baby showers. With a few changes, it would work just as well for a bridal luncheon or an anniversary celebration.

    Figure A

Want to create a special centerpiece without a great investment of time and money? Craft expert Dohki Mirmirani offers a fresh approach that won't break the bank.

    Materials:

8" round or square wood or firm cardboard box (without a lid)
    1 yard fabric
    Scissors
    Glue gun
    Stapler with staples
    Ribbon or tulle
    6" potted plant

    1. Measure the box and cut fabric to fit over the outside. Leave enough at top edge (at least 1-1/2") to tuck inside the box.

    2. Apply a few dots of hot glue to bottom edge of box surface and begin tightly wrapping the fabric around the box.

    3. Staple the fabric to inside box at top to secure (figure A).

    4. Insert a potted plant or a container of live or silk flowers inside the box. Tie tulle or ribbon a few inches from top to create a polished presentation.
