- Drill evenly spaced holes around the sides of the picture frame or wooden disc. If youre using a disc to make a clock, drill 12 evenly spaced holes to denote the hours.
- Glue skewers in the holes with wood glue (figure A). Cut skewers to different lengths. Paint and embellish the skewers and frame or disc, if desired.
- Drill holes in the wooden balls large enough to accommodate the skewers. If the balls already have holes, check the size and adjust if necessary.
- Working on a hard surface such as a large tile, stack thin layers in different colors of clay (figure B) and wrap around the balls. Dont cover the hole in the ball.
- Smooth out the clay. Use a sharp blade to peel away layers of clay and expose the layering for a cool mottled look (figure C).
- Bake the covered balls according to the package instructions. Varnish to seal after the balls cool off.
- Glue the balls to the ends of the skewers for an instant retro masterpiece.
