- Measure the diameter of the bicycle wheel rim most rims range from 23" to 28" in diameter.
- Gather a variety of evergreen branches, making sure several are long enough to reach from the center of the wheel past the rim.
- To start the wreath, choose a branch that is fairly long and straight. Position the branch in the "12 o'clock" position, so that it starts at the center of the wheel and points away from you, extending a few inches beyond the rim. Secure the branch to the spokes and rim with floral wire.
- Work your way around the rim, attaching branches at the
3 oclock, 6 oclock and 9 oclock positions (figure A). - Add branches between these four initial ones, filling the spaces evenly (figure B). Use some different lengths of branches toward the center of the wheel, layering shorter branches on top of longer ones. Keep the branches tight and secure, tucking in the ends when possible (figure C)
- When the wreath is as full as you like, add some pine cones or other decorative elements, if desired. Attach some heavier wire across the back to serve as a hanger.
- You can change the contents of the wreath with the seasons use herbs, flowers or dried elements to keep a fresh look all year long.
