Jan Dressler, owner of Dressler Stencil Company, teaches how to use stencils outdoors with Patio PaintB.--a product specially designed for outdoor use that withstands all types of weather. Jan shows how to add a gold garland to a stepping stone. Materials: Stepping stone Garland stencil Stencil brushes Gold-metallic and dark-gold Patio Paint - Place the garland stencil on the stepping stone, and apply metallic-gold Patio Paint in a pouncing motion, using a stencil brush. Porous surfaces tend to cause the paint to smear. Work with a drier brush, and try to get into the crevices. The rougher the surface, the drier the brush should be. Remove the stencil.
- Place the garland stencil overlay on the stepping stone, lining up the stencil with the base coat, and apply the dark-gold paint with a stencil brush. This step adds veining to the leaves (figure A).
- Remove the stencil overlay, and let the paint dry (figure B).
You can also use Patio Paint on terra-cotta pots, brick pavers, fences, window boxes and brick walls (figure C).
