    Figure C

    Materials:

    Large pumpkin -- 12-15" diameter
    Tempera poster paint
2-3" eye hooks for piercing and earring
Wheat grass -- about 3" wide by 8" long
    Carrot
2 small orange miniature tomatoes (available in the fall, shaped like pumpkins)
    2 protea blossoms
1 Japanese lantern blossom (available in the fall)
    Two 1" sequins
1 weird lemon -- looks a little like a yellow squid
    Hot glue
    Floral pick
    Wire
    Pearl hatpins
    8" diameter cement pot

    1. Remove the stalk from the pumpkin.

    2. Paint the pumpkin any color you wish -- we used a lime green.

    3. Glue the wheat grass over the top like a Mohawk haircut (figure A), or you can pin it on.

    4. Attach the features:

      • Run a pearl hatpin through a sequin and through the middle of a small tomato for each eye.

      • Wire the carrot on (or you can use a toothpick) as the nose.

      • Open out one Japanese lantern blossom (figure B) and glue it on as the mouth.

      • Glue the protea blossoms on as ears.

      • Accessorize with piercing by twisting in an eyehook over one eye (figure C ) and screw one in as an earring.

      • Insert a floral pick into the top of the lemon and poke it into the forehead, just in front of the wheat grass.

    Tips:

    • Use the flowerpot as a pedestal.

    • Make any substitutions that please you for the facial features.

Products: The poster paint is available from a craft store. Eye hooks and wire can be found at hardware stores. Everything else is available at a floral supply store.
