Materials: Large cookie sheet with rim (11" x 17")
Black spray paint
5 Ball or Mason wide-mouth tapered pint jars
Autumn leaves
5 plastic bats
Hot glue & glue gun
Yarzeit candles or religious candles in glass (remove labels)
Rag
Water
Black opaque drawing (India) ink
2 plastic skeletons about 12" high
Popsicle sticks - Spray the edges of the cookie sheet, the jar lids, and the Popsicle sticks black.
- Cut any strings off the bats and glue them to the glass canning jars. Glue the center of the bat body first, then glue each wing so it wraps around the jar (figure A).
- Place the candles inside the jars.
- Hot glue one jar onto the top of its lid so it stands up higher (figure B). Use this taller jar in the middle.
- Place the cookie sheet where you want it on the table.
- Fill cookie sheet with water until almost full.
- Squirt a little India Ink into water. Use a Popsicle stick to stir the ink around.
Note: India Ink is used in technical pens and is available at most art stores. You need to use caution when handling India Ink because it can stain very badly. The reason for using India Ink is that it really gives the water a mirrored look. - Place the batty jars into the water.
- Place autumn leaves around the edges of the cookie sheet (figure C).
- Glue one Popsicle stick to each skeleton (figure D) so that the 2 legs of the skeleton and the Popsicle stick form a tripod to support the skeleton. Place them in the water.
Note: You can use an object other than skeleton. Whatever you use needs to have legs so it can stand. - Light the candles.
