Picture-hanging kit or brackets
Water-based paint (optional)
3" nylon "chipped" paintbrush
Cotton rags
Tarp or large garbage bag
Sandpaper
Briwax
Mirror
Glass cutter (optional)
Straightedge or T-square
Gloves
Protective eyewear
Wood glue
- First, cover work surface and assess the color and placement of drawer(s). Measure the inside dimensions to determine mirror size.
- Next, sand the drawer to age edges and wipe to remove any residue. Tip: The grade of sandpaper can determine the final look of the drawer. Heavier sandpaper gives a more distressed look than lighter sandpaper.
- Paint, if desired.
- Wearing gloves and protective eyewear, begin cutting mirror (figure A). First, place mirror on a flat surface, leaving an overhang. Use glass cutter and straightedge to score the cut. Tip: Make mirror slightly smaller than the inside of the drawer for easier handling. You can cut and paint trim pieces to match the drawer and cover edges of mirror.
- Continue to score the mirror until you can tap the line and snap the glass off straight with one quick motion of your hand. Use edge of table to help scored line break evenly (figure B). (Mirror can also be cut at a glass or mirror shop).
- After mirror is cut, sand edges of drawer and apply Briwax. Wax drawer with rag until soft sheen is achieved.
- Apply glue to inside drawer surface and place mirror in drawer. Allow to dry.
- Attach hangers to back of drawer and hang.
