Aromatherapy features more than 600 essential oils that can be combined for different emotional and physical effects.

Karina Gutierrez says smell is our most powerfully affected sense: it can influence emotions and revive memories. Gutierrez looks for ways to incorporate aromatherapy into her daily life as frequently -- and in as many different ways -- as possible. Gutierrez learned aromatherapy, which uses essential oils taken from plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables, from her grandmother, who used the natural essences by instinct. Now Gutierrez studies the science and uses books (including an Advanced Aromatherapy Decoder) to aid her in her daily selections. - Gutierrez uses peppermint to "wake up" and jump-start her day.
- Lavendar is used during her morning shower for "balance."
- At work, Gutierrez uses an electric diffuser to disperse lemon or peppermint to keep her alert.
- At night she mixes blue chamomile with lavendar to help her sleep.
