Here's a close-up of this clever bathroom spa chair.

    Materials:

    Plastic patio chair
    1"-thick foam (24" x 44")
    6-1/2 yds. terrycloth (60" wide)
    1 yd. self-adhesive hook-and-loop tape
    5-1/2 yds. pompons or trim
    1 yd. 1" elastic
    Scissors
    Sewing machine

    1. Cut the foam to cradle the seat and back of the chair.

    2. Use duct tape to attach the foam to the chair (figure A).

    3. To make the skirt of the chair, cut three 16" x 60" strips of terrycloth and sew all 3 together on the 16" side, making a cylinder. Stitch a 1" hem at the top for elastic to run through, and stitch a 1/2" hem at the bottom. Place the elasticized skirt on the chair just below the seat (figure B).

    4. Drape the remaining piece of terrycloth over the entire chair with the foam in place and cut into an oval shape. Allow the fabric to hang over the seat of the chair about 3". Serge around the edge of the oval circumference. Turn under, hem and add pompons or fringe (figure C).

    5. At the base of the chair, make 2 large buttonholes. Cut a strip of terrycloth 5" wide by 36" long. Hem the edges. This is a sash to run through the buttonhole slits and tie under the chair (figure D) to keep the slipcover in place.

    6. Make two additional 5" x 20" sash-style ties to stitch below the arms of the chair, so when they are pulled toward the back of the chair and knotted, they will create an interesting shape and help keep the slipcover in place.

Products: The patio chair is available at home-supply stores. Everything else is available at fabric stores.
