Kitty Bartholomew, host of HGTV's Kitty Bartholomew: You're Home, offers great do-it-yourself ideas for home storage. Make a skirted decorative covering to conceal open shelves or under-table storage -- or a wall holder to hold wrapping paper or other rolled items. To make a table skirt to hide stored items, attach fabric panels to the lip of the table with stick-on VelcroB. strips. Apply one strip of Velcro along the lip of the table (figure A) and the corresponding strip along the top edge of the skirt (figure B). Finish the edges of the panels without sewing by hemming them with fusible hem tape. Try the following simple idea for storing anything that can be rolled -- wrapping paper, drafting plans, fabric or wallpaper. Sew a row of horizontal stitching every 5" to 6" along two double strips of heavy-duty ribbon. Hang the pair of ribbons from a dowel to create a ribbon holder, and install it on the back of a door, on a wall or in a closet. Tuck rolled items horizontally in the holder between the areas of stitching (figure C).
