This tree was created using small squares of hand-torn paper cut diagonally -- and is great way to put small scraps of paper to good use. Watch this video and see how easy it is to accomplish!

A thrifty -- yet clever -- way to use leftover paper and cardstock is to cut them into squares and use as graphic elements. By doing this, designer Becky Eldenberg created this "Snowman" page for less than $1.50!

    Materials:

Small pieces of white and green cardstock
Paper or cardstock remnants in assorted shades
    White gel pen
    Scissors
    Glue or adhesive
    Stickers
    Chiseler

    1. Optional: Use white gel pen to trace around the outer perimeter of a large template to create a frame for the page.

    2. The first element created will be the blanket of snow at the bottom of the page. Create blanket by hand-tearing 2 long strips of white paper (figure A).

    3. Attach the first strip 1/4" - 1/2" from the bottom edge. Attach squares to each end of second strip and layer over the first (figure B)

    4. Next, hand-tear green paper into square. Use scissors to diagonally cut the square in half (figure C). Repeat until 4 triangular pieces have been cut. Adhere to page in layers to create a tree shape.

    5. Use 3 graduated squares of white paper or cardstock to create snowman's body (figure D).

    6. Use assorted shades of paper or cardstock remnants to embellish snowman as desired.

    7. A plastic chiseler can be used to determine placement of stickers (figure E).
