    episode DWTT-102

If you're thinking about setting up your own woodturning shop, here are a few tips to get you started.

There are a few basic things you need to successfully turn wood in your shop:

    • Lathe
    • Woodturning tools
    • Wood
    • Tool sharpener

Another item that may help in your shop are pull-down window shades hung around the lathe. They will keep the wood shavings from flying all over your shop. Also, a vacuum system near the lather will remove dust and smaller shavings from the air. An air filtration system can be installed above the lathe to remove very fine dust.

When choosing a location for your lathe, consider what is near-by. You should keep away from window in the event that a piece of wood breaks off. Also, make sure you have enough room for larger pieces of wood.

Install some large shelves for drying wood pieces.
