The bowl's rim now takes center stage.
Steps:1. Since metal never spins uniformly, the rim also has to be trued; to do this the wooden chisel stick is used on the metal. The tool rest is moved in closer and the tip of the chisel makes contact with the edge of the bowl (figure A). Do NOT touch the edge until the razor sharp wire edge is cleaned off on both sides of the bowl.
2. The cleaned edge of the bowl must be rolled over and under the bowl (figure B). This is done with the sharp end of the stick, which is leveraged against the pin on the tool rest (figure C).
3. The spoon helps provide the point at which the metal should bend. This point is determined by the thickness of the metal and how much metal it takes to go around the edge. The amount of pressure used is important; too much pressure and the edges will fold. The goal is to just move the edge to be past vertical.
4. To complete the curved edge, the stick handle is pushed down, then rolled toward the edge; this action pulls the edge in and the groove in the stick bends the edge. Roll and push at the same time (figure D).
5. Switch the tool rest pin to the other side and use the side of the stick to finish rolling the edge in place, then close it up (figure E). Again, don't overdo the pressure.
